What interior painting with Alto Pro Painters includes
A fresh coat of paint changes how a home looks and feels faster than almost any other upgrade, and doing it yourself can take weeks of evenings. Alto Pro Painters paints the inside of homes, condos and small commercial spaces across the South Okanagan so the job is finished quickly, cleanly and to a standard you will still like in five years.
We paint the following interior spaces and surfaces:
- Kitchens, dining rooms and living rooms
- Bedrooms, nurseries and home offices
- Bathrooms, hallways, foyers and stairwells
- Basements and finished lower levels
- Ceilings, baseboards, window trim and door casings
- Interior doors, closet doors and built-ins
Whether it is one feature wall or every room in the house, the job starts the same way: a written quote that lists the rooms, the prep, the paint and the timeline, so there are no surprises on paint day.
How an interior paint job goes
- Free written quote. We look at the rooms, ask about the age of the home and the finish you want, and send a detailed quote in writing with the scope and the price.
- Pre-job call. Before your start date we confirm the colours and details, answer your questions and go over what to clear from the area, such as valuables, fragile items, pictures and shelves. If you have pets, we suggest arranging a place for them while the work is under way.
- Protect and prep. On paint day we walk the rooms with you, cover the floors, move and cover furniture, fill holes and cracks, repair drywall where needed, remove wallpaper if it is part of the job, and caulk the trim and windows.
- Prime and paint. Stains, patches and bare spots are primed, then the walls, ceilings and trim are painted with the number of coats the paint and the colour change call for.
- Final walkthrough and clean-up. We walk the finished rooms with you while the paint is still fresh, touch up anything that needs it, then clean up once you have signed off.
The prep that makes interior paint last
Most paint problems that show up a year later, such as peeling, flashing, visible patches or stains bleeding through, trace back to rushed prep rather than the paint itself. That is why prep is the longest part of most interior jobs and why it is written into the quote.
- Washing or degreasing walls where cooking residue, smoke or hand marks would stop paint sticking
- Scraping loose paint and sanding rough areas so the new coat sits flat
- Filling nail holes, dents and cracks, then sanding them smooth
- Repairing damaged drywall so patches do not show through the finish
- Caulking gaps along trim, baseboards and windows for crisp, clean lines
- Priming stains, patched areas and bare drywall so the topcoat covers evenly
Choosing colours and paint finishes
Colour is often the hardest part of the job. You do not have to choose alone: we are happy to talk through colour schemes with you, including how a colour will look beside your flooring, cabinets and natural light. As a starting point, a monochromatic scheme uses one hue in different shades, an analogous scheme uses neighbouring hues such as yellow, orange-yellow and orange, and a complementary scheme pairs opposites such as yellow and blue for a livelier look.
Finish matters as much as colour. Flat or matte hides wall imperfections and suits ceilings and low-traffic rooms. Eggshell and satin are easier to wipe clean and suit living areas, hallways and bedrooms. Semi-gloss stands up to moisture and scrubbing, which is why it is usual on trim, doors, kitchens and bathrooms.
What affects the price of an interior paint job
We do not publish fixed prices because no two homes are the same, but we can tell you what moves the number. Your written quote shows each of these so you can see where the money goes:
- The number and size of rooms, and the ceiling height
- The condition of the walls, including how much patching and sanding is needed
- Whether you are changing colour, especially from dark to light, which can mean primer plus extra coats
- Ceilings, trim, doors and closets, which are priced separately from walls
- Furniture that must be moved, wallpaper that must come off, and any drywall repair
- The paint you choose and its finish
Was your home built before 1990?
Health Canada says homes built before 1960 probably contain lead paint and homes built from 1960 to 1990 may. Tell us the age of your home when you ask for a quote so we can plan the prep and any testing before sanding or scraping starts.

Interior painting questions
How long does it take to paint a room?
Once prep is done, most single rooms take one to two days. The time depends on the size of the room, the ceiling height, the condition of the walls and the number of coats. Your written quote includes a timeline for your job.
Do I need to move my furniture?
We move and cover the larger pieces. We ask you to clear valuables, fragile items, pictures and shelves from the area before we arrive, and we confirm the details on the pre-job call.
How many coats of paint will my walls need?
Two coats is typical for a quality wall paint. Going from a dark colour to a light one, or painting over a patched or stained wall, usually needs primer first. The quote states what your walls need.
Can you paint over wallpaper?
We recommend taking wallpaper off first, because paint can lift seams and show the pattern through. We offer wallpaper removal and can include it in the same quote.
Is the quote really free?
Yes. The quote is free and in writing, and it lists the surfaces, the prep, the paint and the timeline before any work starts.
Related services
Many interior jobs include more than paint. We also offer drywall repair, popcorn ceiling removal, wallpaper removal and cabinet painting, and the same crew can handle them in one visit. For the outside of your home, see exterior painting.
